3 July 1947 - The Anamosa Journal

Phillip L. DuFloth, 67, retired Anamosa shoe repair man, died at his home last Monday at 7 p.m. after a long illness.

Funeral service will be held from Smykil Home for Funerals Thursday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

Mr. DuFloth was born at Glickstahl, Russia, on Dec. 7, 1879, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John DuFloth. He came to the United States at the age of seven years and went to South Dakota.

On Jan. 3, 1907, he was married at Amber to Kathleen Oliver and the couple returned to South Dakota to make their home. In 1916, they returned to Anamosa and Mr. DuFloth went into the shoe repair business which he operated until a few years ago when he retired as one of Anamosa's oldest business men in point of years of service to the public.

Survivors include Mrs. DeFloth and seven children, Mrs. Norman White, Cranford, N. J.; Roy, Maquoketa; Mrs. James Maurice, Monticello; Gordon DuFloth, Chicago; Mrs. Phila Newhard, Anamosa; Alan DuFloth, San Diego, Calif.; and Joanna A. DuFloth, Anamosa.

There are nine grandchildren.

Five brothers and three sisters who survive include: John, Tolstoy, S. Dak.; Christ, Chicago; Jacob, Tolstoy; Gottlieb, Rapid City, S. Dak.; Rose and Kathryn, both of Tolstoy, and Louise, Seneca, S. Dak.

Funeral service for Phillip L. DuFloth, 67, who died on Monday, June 30, was held Thursday afternoon of last week in the Smykil for Funerals.

Rev. Walter D. Wigger, pastor of the Anamosa Baptist church, officiated.

Casket bearers were Richard Nickels, Fred Althen, Elmer Russell, Peter Johannsen, Don Goodman and Lance Candee.

Burial was in Riverside cemetery.
