STONE CITY - Funeral service for Edward Wayne Brundidge, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse F. Brundidge, Stone City, was held Monday afternoon at a Cedar Rapids chapel. Burial was made in Cedar Memorial cemetery.

Edward's body was recovered last Friday at 12:10 p.m. from the Wapsipinicon river just southeast of Stone City after a three hour search by Linn county authorities and members of the Anamosa Volunteer fire department.

In the boat when the body was found were William R. White and Gerhart Clemenson, special deputy sheriffs from Linn county, and Lawrence Otten and Lyle Russell, Anamosa firemen. Others from Anamosa who aided in the search were Howard Chipman, William Dorgeloh, Harold McDaniel and L. E. Taylor.

Edward, whose father is a trapper, had left his home jest west of the Pulver quarry between two and four o'clock Thursday afternoon to set traps. When he failed to return home his father went to the river where he found the boat lodged against a dead tree extending out over the water. None of the traps had been set.

Officials were called and lined up their equipment in order to start dragging the river bottom Friday morning.

Body was found in 10 feet of water on mud bottom about 20 feet above where the boat was lodged and about 20 feet out from shore. Edward was wearing rubber knee boots. He could not swim.

Authorities believed he was thrown from the boat when it struck the tree.

Surviving besides his parents are four brothers, Fay, Jesse and John, Stone City, and Paul Clinton; and four sisters, Mrs. Paul Keffer, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Arthur Mullett, Darlene and Irene Brundidge, Stone City.

Brundidge's death was the second this year in Jones county by drowning.
