Oscar H. Story, 68, Anamosa, former state parole officer, died Thursday, Jan. 7, at a hospital in Fontana, Calif., following a lingering illness. Storys went to California on Nov. 19. He was on sick leave until Jan. 1 when his retirement became effective. He had suffered a stroke in the fall.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 11, at 1:30 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. J. E. Webb and Judge Warren Reese presented the eulogy. Burial was in Merritt cemetery, Olin.

Pallbearers included E. H. Linnen Kamp, Clear Lake; Ben Marlenee, Perry; John Harbison, Keosauqua; Harold Cerveny, Cedar Rapids; William Trentz, Dubuque; and Fred Struck, Waterloo, all parole agents.

He was born Sept. 18, 1897, son of Horace Story and Emma Stivers Story, Olin. He was married to Bess Merritt, Nov. 27, 1919, at Olin. He was a member of the American Legion.

He was first named a parole agent March 1, 1946. At first he handled cases in 24 counties. In later years he was agent for Linn, Benton and Jones counties. He had made his home in Anamosa for many years.

Before becoming a parole officer he was educational director at the Men's reformatory and before that taught in public schools for 12 years, including nine years as superintendent at Lost Nation. He was a veteran of World war I.

Survivors include his wife, Bess; three daughters, Phyllis, Mrs. Carl Gustafson, Yucaipa, Calif.; Joan, Mrs. Richard Jack, Monterey Park, Calif.; Greta, Mrs. Robert Pruitt, LaCrescenta, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Sydney, killed in September, 1944 in military service; his parents, one brother and one sister.
