OXFORD JUNCTION - Joe Straka, 68, Oxford Junction, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 14, at his home, from a heart attack.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 17, at 1:30 p.m., at the Hayden Funeral home, Oxford Junction. Rev. Ramon Booth conducted the service. Burial was in the Mayflower cemetery.

Masonic service was held at the Funeral home Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m.

Pallbearers included Ray Mizaur, Lee Allen, Leonard Ahrendsen, John Carstensen, Neal Bright and Melvin Willey.

He was born Feb. 27, 1896, son of James and Anna Lasack Straka, Oxford Junction. He had lived his entire life in the Oxford Junction area. He was married to Velma Shimerda Sept. 1, 1921. Couple farmed for a number of years northwest of Oxford Junction before retiring 15 years ago and moving to Oxford Junction.

He was a member of the Keystone lodge A.F. & A.M., Wyoming, Cedar Rapids Consistory and El Kahir Shrine, Cedar Rapids, and the Z.C.B.J. Bohemian lodge, Oxford Junction.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Eldon Rutenbeck, Maquoketa, a brother, Otto, Oxford Junction and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one sister and two brothers.
