MONTICELLO- John H. Schafer, 36, Monticello, died Friday, Aug. 7, at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic church, Anamosa, on Monday, Aug. 10, at 9:30 a.m. Rev. J. A. McMahon conducted the service. Burial was in Holy Cross cemetery, Anamosa. McNamara Funeral home, Anamosa, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers included Gerald Doyle, Manford Hinz, Ed Folken, R. S. Bronneman, Ralph Schafer and Jimmy Schafer.

He was born May 31, 1928, son of George Schafer and Emma Zimmerman Schafer on a farm near Langworthy. He was married Nov. 5, 1949, to Berniece Brady of Anamosa.

He had lived his married life on a farm near Langworthy. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Berniece, a daughter, Diane; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Schafer, Monticello; and two brother, Willis and Louis, rural Monticello.
