MONTICELLO - Joseph L. Scherrer, 80, Monticello, died Monday, March 30, at John McDonald hospital, Monticello.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 2, at the Goettsch Funeral home, Monticello. Rev. John Wild conducted the service. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.

Pallbearers included past chiefs of the fire department, including Lester Rickels, Fred Kreeb, Larry Goodyear, Raymond Marolf, Gilbert Hearn and Donald Schlimmer.

He was born Jan. 3, 1884, at Monticello, son of Louis Scherrer and Mary Helm Scherrer. He was married to Mary Siebels. He operated a dairyline for many years, and later did cement construction work.

He was a member of the Presbyterian church. He had served as a member of the fire department for 26 years.

Survivors include two sons, Harold and Edward, both of Monticello; a daughter, Josephine, Mrs. Glen A. Russell, Anamosa; a sister, Mrs. Ella Aschbrenner, Waterloo; four grandchildren, Ruth Ann and Donald Scherrer, and Jo Ann and Robert Russell.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1922.
