25 December 1947 - The Anamosa Journal

Last rites for Bert Shover, 63, who died Monday morning, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Smykil Home for Funerals. Rev. Walter D. Wigger, pastor of the Anamosa Baptist church, officiated, and Miss Betty Sigworth and Miss Marjorie Peet had charge of the music.

Casket bearers were Ralph Peck, Joe Soper, Ray Morning, Pete Morning, L. A. Downing and Glen Oliphant. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.

Bert Shover, son of Mrs. Joe Snyder, was born June 1, 1884, in Monticello. As a young lad he was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. John Shover, Ryan, and attended school there and at Monticello. When he was 21 years old he went to Hettinger, N.D., where he was engaged in the ranching business.

On Dec. 8, 1908, he was married to Tennie Mary Norries, Dickson, N.D. In 1909 they moved to Monticello where Mr. Shover was employed by the Hall Mfg. Co. for six years. During the past 17 years the couple farmed the Asa Smith farm, adjoining Wapsipinicon state park, Anamosa.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, Paul, at home; George and Rollie, Anamosa; and Keith, Waterloo; four daughters, Gladys Shover, Mrs. James Caswell and Mrs. Alice Axline, Anamosa, and Mrs. Genevieve Heffelfinger, Marion, and 12 grandchildren.
