13 March 1947 - The Anamosa Journal

Hughey Elias Stover, 72, pioneer resident of tis community died Wednesday at 10 a.m. at his farm home three miles south of Anamosa, after a long illness.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Smykil Home for Funerals. Rev. C. L. Windsor, Morley, will conduct the service. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery.

Mr. Stover, son of Elias and Emily Stover, was born Jan. 23, 1875, in Fairview township, where he spent his entire life. He was one of seven children.

He was married Nov. 24, 1903 to Bertha A. Meeks. In addition to his own daughter, Mrs. James Austin, Mr. Stover raised his two grandsons, Billy and Bobby Carlsen, who were left fatherless at an early age, and his niece Mildred Marie Stover.

He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Mrs. Austin, the two grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Emily Mae Mollet, Portland, Ore.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Samuel G., Thomas Jefferson, Francis M. and William H. Stover and one sister, Mrs. Charles Mollet.

Funeral service for Hughey Elias Stover, 72, who died Wednesday of last week, was held Friday afternoon in the Smykil Home for Funerals.

Rev. C. L. Windsor, Morley, officiated. Burial was in Forest Hill cemetery.

Casket bearers were Don Ruhl, Don Smith, Menno Otten, Carl Otten, Emil Pillard and Louis Vernon.
