Funeral service for Mrs. Harper Smyth, 80, long-time resident of Anamosa, was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Smykil Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Smyth died Saturday in Mercy hospital, where she had been a patient four weeks.

Last rites were conducted by Rev. Barney C. Crockett, pastor of the First Congregational church. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.

Casket bearers were Eugene Rees, Albert Ament, L. A. Downing, Howard Robertson, Irvin J. Hovet, and Henry Hartman.

Harriet Susan Easterly was born at Olin, Nov. 24, 1866, daughter of Solomon L. and Anna Easterly. When she was 14 years old family moved to Anamosa where her father served as county treasurer. She was graduated from the Anamosa public schools in 1886. On March 4, 1889, she married Harper P. Smyth.

Except for two years spent in Chicago, in 1891 and 1893, the couple spent their entire lives in Anamosa. They entered the hotel business with Mrs. Smyth's father in 1893, and after he retired continued to operate the Easterly hotel. Mrs. Smyth was active in this work until she suffered a stroke on Feb. 14.

Couple observed their 58th wedding anniversary March 4.

She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Lee M. Sanner, Anamosa; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
