20 February 1947 - The Anamosa Journal

MORLEY - John Siebels, 62, farmer living 1/2 mile north of Morley, died Wednesday at his home. Death resulted from heart disease after a brief illness.

Body is at Smykil Home for Funerals in Anamosa. Funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Smykil home and at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's American Lutheran church.

Survivors are Mrs. Siebels and five children, Mrs. Hannah Wickham, Marion; Mrs. Hannah Stingley, Anamosa; Freddy Siebels, at home; Mrs. Marian Capron, Anamosa, and Miss Gladys Siebels, Chicago.

Burial will be in Castle Grove cemetery.

MORLEY - Funeral service for John Oltman Siebels, 62, of near Morley, who died Wednesday of last week, was held Saturday afternoon at St. Paul's American Lutheran church, Anamosa.

Short service was held at the Smykil Home for Funerals. Rev. H. L. Buesing, pastor, officiated.

Casketbearers were Garret Steenhoek, Fred Austin, William Bailey, Robert Bainbridge, Gay McConaughy and Delbert Smith. Burial was in Castle Grove cemetery.

Mr. Siebels, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Siebels, Sr., was born March 8, 1884, in Wayne township. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and at the time of his death was a member of St. Paul's American Lutheran church, Anamosa.

He was married Feb. 4, 1913, to Miss Johanna Schafer, Castle Grove, who died in November of the same year. In 1917, he married Miss Frieda Ehlers, Cole Camp, Mo. The couple lived in the Forest community near Anamosa until three years ago, when they purchased a farm one-half mile north of Morley.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Miss Gladys Siebels, Chicago, and Mrs. Garland Capron and Mrs. DeWitt Stingley, both of Anamosa; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Glen Wickham, Marion; one son, Fred Siebels, Lisbon; three brothers, Garret and Antone Siebels, both of Castle Grove, and Siebert Siebels, Anamosa; and one sister, Mrs. Henry Lubben, Cedar Rapids.

There are nine grandchildren.

Two infant daughters preceded him in death.
