WYOMING - Funeral service for W. O. Shaffer, 83, who died Friday evening from a stroke suffered early that morning, was held Sunday afternoon from the Harrington Funeral home with Rev. F. E. Somerville, pastor of the Methodist church, in charge.

Deceased was born Nov. 3, 1862 at Blumberg, Penn., the second of a family of five children in the home of the late Nathan and Mary Ann Shaffer. When a small child he came to Iowa with his parents, settling on a farm near Canton, but moved to Madison township west of Wyoming, three years later.

After his marriage he farmed for a few years on the home place and then began his career of selling in Wyoming in 1899, as proprietor of a clothing and shoe store. In 1910 he disposed of this business and for 20 years was a traveling salesman, selling coal to dealers throughout Iowa with the family home at Rhodes. In 1926 he engaged in the fire insurance business in Wyoming, later adding real estate.

He is survived by his wife, Amy Brush Shaffer, to whom he was married March 25, 1891.

Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Berdale Breunig, Wyoming; Mrs. Elizabeth Hildreth, Marshalltown; three grandsons, one great granddaughter and one greatgrandson and one brother, C. B. Shaffer, Wyoming. Two sons preceded him in death, Dillon, at the age of four years and Wallace, who died six years ago. Grandson and a granddaughter also preceded him in death.
