Funeral service for Mrs. Hannah Steckel, 90, who died Saturday, Sept. 7, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Miller, at 206 Park Avenue, was held at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Smykil Home for Funerals. Rev. Walter Wigger of the Baptist church and Rev. Edgar E. Walker, jr., of the Methodist church, were officiating pastors.

Mrs. Genevieve Osborne Braum sang two of Mrs. Steckel's favorite hymns, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought," and, "Crossing the Bar". Burial was made at Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers were Roy D. Cooley, Millard Crispin, Dr. B. F. Erb, A. B. Lake, George Fegan and W. O. Blake.

Mrs. Steckel had been an invalid for the last five years. She was born Sept. 16, 1855, daughter of Jacob and Mary Ruhe, at Allentown, Pa. She attended school at Allentown and came to Jones county with her parents in 1871, where she has since lived.

In 1877 she was married to Charles Hackett. One daughter, Nellie, was born to the union. She was later married to Frank Steckel, who died Aug 7, 1945.

She was a lifelong member of the Baptist church, and an active member of the Ladies Aid society until her health failed.

Surviving are her daughter and several nieces and nephews.

Persons from out-of-town who attended the service were: Mrs. Theron M. Hilton, Mason City; Mrs. Frank Critz, Iowa City; Mrs. Charles Griffin and George Ruhe, Ottumwa; Allison and Sylvia Hines, Cedar Rapids, and Ella Hines, Boone.
