June 13, 1946 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Mrs. Isabelle Sams, aged resident of Anamosa, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Smykil home for funerals.

Mrs. Sams died this Wednesday at her home on West Main street after an illness of more than five years. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

Surviving include a son, Lee Sams, west of Anamosa and Dean of Creston. Four daughters also survive.

Funeral service for Mrs. Isabelle C. Sams, 74, who died at her home in Anamosa Wednesday of last week, was held Friday afternoon at the Smykil Home for Funerals. Rev. Edgar E. Walker, jr., of the Methodist church officiated. Burial was made at Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers included Frank Cooper, George Leeper, Leroy Skeels, Henry Rickels, Charles Norton and James Lloyd.

Isabelle Cummings Sams, daughter of Robert and Catherine Cummings, was born in Custer County, Nebr., Feb. 9, 1872. While yet a small child she moved with her parents to Clinton, Iowa. As a young woman she came to the Cass Center community to work. Aug. 21, 1889, she was married to Charles Sams and they lived the great share of their lives in the Anamosa community.

Mrs. Sams was preceeded in death by her husband in 1935, and by two daughters, Lila and Myrtle.

Following children survive: Mrs. Elva Smith, Mrs. Jennie Hughes, Mrs. Sarah Parks and Lee Charles Sams, all of Anamosa; Mrs. Verne Sams, Spragueville. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sams had been a member of the Anamosa Methodist church 36 years.
