MARTELLE - First Lieut. Donald C. Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy C. Martin, Martelle, has been officially reported missing in action on a flight from India to China on Jan. 7, and is believed to have lost his life on that date.

Lieut. Martin, co-pilot on a C-46 Commando plane, was on a flight from northeast India to Kumming, China, over the Himalaya mountains, known as the "hump".

Donald, graduate of the Martelle high school, enlisted in the Air Corps in May, 1942, while a second year engineering student at Iowa University. He began his training Dec. 5, 1942, and received his wings and commission as a Second Lieutenant at Ponca City, Okla., Nov. 1, 1943. He went overseas to the Indo-China area Oct. 24, 1944.

Surviving are his wife, the former Avis Armstrong, Martelle, his parents, two sisters, Lieut. Dorothy Martin, an Army nurse in Germany with the First Army, and Mrs. Robert Nirenberg, Washington, D.C.
