WYOMING - Memorial service for Sergt. Raymond Julifs, 22, who was killed in action in Europe on Feb. 26, was held Sunday at the Lutheran church in Wyoming with the Rev. Herbert Graening in charge. Mrs. Graening sang two solos, and Mrs. Lafayette Bahnsen played the organ.

American Legion Post 259 colors were carried by Lieut. Donald Gerdes and Pvt. Raymond Holtz, both home on furlough. Melvin Petersen, also home on furlough, and Lafayette Bahnsen, honorably discharged, formed the color guard.

Sergt. Julifs was born at Amber, Aug. 25, 1922, son of Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Julifs. He was reared in the Lutheran faith. During the period of need for workers in critical war production plants he was employed at the Rock Island arsenal.

Raymond was called to service Dec. 26, 1942. He was first stationed at Ft, Knox, Ky., where he received training with an armored division. Completing his training there, he was moved to Camp Campbell, Ky., for one week, and from there to Indiantown Gap, Pa. He went overseas Sept. 19, 1943.

He was moved to France 18 days after D-day to participate in the heroic activities of the third armored division under the direction of Gen. Rose. Sergt. Julifs saw almost constant action at the front since July, 1944. He died as a result of enemy action Feb. 26.

He is buried in an American cemetery somewhere in Belgium.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene, nee Hamer; a son, Jimmy Ray, who he never saw; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Julifs and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Joe Jacobsen, Onslow; Mrs. R. Potter, Anamosa; Pvt. Mabel Julifs, WAC, El Paso, Texas; Pfc. John Julifs, in the European area; Mrs. Dean Meade, Onslow; Edwin Julifs, at home, and Pvt. Donald Julifs, somewhere in the Pacific.
