Funeral service for Wilke Husmann, 85, who died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Rink, at Monticello, was held at a Monticello Funeral home and Wayne Lutheran church, Tuesday. Rev. F. H. Kehren was the officiating minister. Burial was made in the Wayne cemetery. Pallbearers were Raymond Martensen, Ernest Husmann, LaVerne Husmann, Gerd Tuetken, John Wennekamp and Robert Kirks.

Wilke Husmann was born Jan. 7, 1869, at Lehrhafe, Amt. Witmund East Friesland, Germany, the son of Wilke Johnson and Anke Margaretha Hayen Husmann. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and after his elementary schooling followed the occupation of farming.

March 18, 1885, he left Bremerhafen, Germany, to emigrate to the United States, and arrived in Monticello the same year. Until 1890 he worked on farms around Monticello, when he returned to Germany to visit with relatives. He stayed there for two years, and returned to Wayne township Nov. 25, 1898.

He was united in marriage to Fesche Margaretha Weerrs. He lived with his family on a farm east of Amber. Eleven children were born to this union, seven daughters and four sons. One daughter, Mayme, and one son, Edward, preceded their father in death.

In 1925 he retired from active farm labor and lived in Amber for the last 10 years. Couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1942. He belonged to Wayne Lutheran church since coming to America in 1885.

Surviving are his wife and children, Anna, Mrs. Henry Wennekamp, Monticello; Will, Onslow; John, Anamosa; Kate, Mrs. Gerd Dirks, Wyoming; Dena, Mrs. D. John Dirks, Anamosa; Mate, Mrs. John F. Husmann, Hopkinton; Louisa, Mrs. Owen Conley, Monticello; Henry, Backus, Minn.; Alwine, Mrs. Henry Rink, Monticello; 43 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Five brothers preceded him in death.
