OLIN - Funeral service was held at the home near Calamus for Merritt Fortney, with burial in the Olin cemetery, Saturday afternoon.

Merritt B. Fortney, son of Ervetus and Ella Weatherby Fortney, was born March 31, 1881, in Olin, and died Feb. 21, 1945, at his home on a farm three miles south of Calamus.

Jan. 1, 1903, he was united in marriage to Lulu B. Clothier at Olin. To this union three daughters were born: Mrs. Elizabeth Blake, Wheatland; Mrs. Dorothy Willfong, Davenport; and Mrs. Lulabel Sloan, Joy, Ill.

For many years Mr. Fortney was engaged as a grading contractor and the last 24 years was spent in farming in Clinton county. He leaves besides his wife and three daughters, three grandchildren, Donald Willfong, Barney and Roby Sloan; three brothers: George, Herbert and Fred. Three sisters, one brother and his parents preceded him in death.
