Kenneth (Kene) Bacon age 87, formerly of Hopkinton, died Thursday, March 25, 2021 at the Jones Regional Hospital, Anamosa, following an extended illness.
A public visitation will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 Sunday, March 28, 2021 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello where Military Honors will be accorded at 3:00. Private family burial will be held in the Hopkinton Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. Mask’s must be worn and fitted properly over the nose and mouth at all times to enter the funeral home. Social distancing needs to be practiced as well. Surviving is his wife, Barbara, four children, Pamela (Tom) Sellner, Manchester, Kevin (Theresa) Bacon, Monticello, Stephanie Bacon, Minneapolis, MN., Jeanne (Brian) Hendricks, Monticello, five grandchildren, Heather (Dusty) Schnittjer, Kalvin (Desiree) Bacon, Tiffany (Bob Hendricks) Bacon, Sienna Hendricks and Cody (Autumn) Hendricks, eight great grandchildren, Knox, Korbin, Piper and Finn Bacon, Michael, Jackson and Luke Schnittjer and Mia Hendricks; five honorary grandchildren, Courtney ( Garrett Houdek) Hendricks and Emily Hendricks, Jennifer (Nick Blakesley) Sellner widow of grandson Seth, Avery and Paige Blakesley, his sister, Betty (Darwin) Green, Springfield, OH, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Barbara Gearhart, a brother, Marvin and grandson Seth Sellner.
Kenneth Milton Bacon was born April 12, 1933 to Clarence Milton and Cidney Marie Miller Bacon at Manchester, Iowa. He attended the Miles Country School #3 and graduated from the Buck Creek High School with the class of 1950. He went to Cornell College and the Ray-Vouge School in Chicago where he studied dress and hat designing. Kene served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He farmed for a number of years before he formed Bacon Construction with his son Kevin. Prior to his retirement he worked at Ertl’s Toys in Dyersville until they closed. For 10 post-retirement years, Kene worked with a Hallmark Installation Team. He was associated with the Delaware County Historical Society for 40 years. He held various offices, vice-president, president and curator. He was instrumental in setting up the museum in Hopkinton.
Kene married Barbara Rink on May 7, 1977 at the Museum Church on the Lenox College campus in Hopkinton. They enjoyed traveling, several Caribbean Cruises and fulfilling Kene’s bucket list trip to his ancestorial country of England. Their home of Rose Hill for 33 years was the scene of many get togethers for family and friends. Of special note was their annual Christmas Open House and New Years Eve Parties. Age and health issues required a move to an apartment in Monticello in 2013.
Kene enjoyed watching Fox News, reading and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
