November 9, 1944 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Mrs. Jennie Ireland, 84, was held Tuesday at the Smykil Home for Funerals. Rev. J. K. Delahooke officiated and burial was in the Antioch cemetery. Pallbearers were Delbert Brickley, Charles Foley, Hal Gilmore, Jesse Holden, Charles Livingstone and James Woodworth.

Jennie Sally Hamilton, daughter of William and Lorraine Hamilton, was born on Monroeville, Ohio, Sept. 19, 1860, and died at her home in Anamosa Nov. 5, 1944. When she was ten years old she came to Iowa with her parents, and the family made its home on a Jones county farm.

She was married to Linus L. Ireland May 26, 1877, Mr. Ireland coming to Jones county in1866 from Urbana, Ill. They spent the remainder of their lives in this county. They lived on the farm until 1911 when they retired to live in Wyoming, and about 1922 they moved to Anamosa, where the family home has been maintained since that time. Mr. Ireland died in May, 1940.

Surviving are her seven children, Mrs. Ben McGuire, Mrs. Meinhardt Thomsen and Mrs. Ernest DeMoss, Wyoming; Leroy Ireland, Martelle; Mrs. Arthur Bender, Vinton; Mrs. Louis Buckholtz, Burns, Wyoming; and Mrs. Grace Webster, Anamosa, with whom she made her home; 19 grandchildren; and about 30 great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Ireland celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1927 and their 60th in 1937. She was a member of the Methodist church in Anamosa.
