17 August 1944 - The Anamosa Journal

Tech. Sergt. Edwin E. Craig, 25, formerly of Scotch Grove, died July 10 in a hospital in Italy of wounds suffered in action July 5.

Sergt. Craig was inducted into the Army at Camp Dodge, Des Moines, June 21, 1941, and was sent from there to Camp Polk, La.; where he remained two years. Following desert maneuvers, he was sent to Camp Cooke, Calif., then to Camp Adair, Ore., and was assigned to overseas duty last April.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Forest E. Craig, he was born April 22, 1919, attended school in Scotch Grove and was a 1936 graduate of the Center Junction high school.

He and his father operated the M. M. Sinclair farm in Scotch Grove township for 12 years, and then moved to a farm near Sand Springs.

Dec. 27, 1941, he married Mary Catherine McLees, Monticello, and they have a daughter, Catherine Ann.

Surviving besides his wife and daughter are his parents, his grandmother, Mrs. M. D. Foster, Linby, Ia.; five sisters, Mrs. Harry Ireland, Des Moines; Mrs. Clarence Taylor, Olin; Mrs. Robert L. Duncan, Morley; Ethel and Betty Lou Craig, Sand Springs.

Memorial service was held Monday morning in the Sacred Heart church at Monticello.
