WYOMING - Funeral service for John H. Behnke, 69, who died Saturday evening, Aug. 26, after a lingering illness, was held Tuesday, Aug. 29, afternoon from the Lutheran church with the Rev. H. Graening, pastor, in charge.

Deceased, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Behnke, was born in Rock Island, Ill., March 24, 1875, and spent his entire life in the Wyoming community, with the exception of 10 years residence at Savage, Mont. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church. His adult occupation was farming.

In 1897 he was married to Bertha Schmidt, Wyoming, who survives with one daughter and one son, Mrs. Fred Weideman, Elwood, and Ernest Behnke, Hale, 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; also five brothers and two sisters: Julius Behnke, Monmouth; Charles Behnke, Anamosa, Will Behnke, Manchester; Louis Behnke, Chicago; Fred Behnke, Wyoming; Mrs. Millie Becker, Monmouth; and Mrs. Henrietta Bouquist, Cedar Rapids. Son died at 10 months of age.

Grandson, Pvt. Wilbur Behnke is with an MP regiment in New Guinea.
