December 7, 1944 - The Anamosa Journal

Mrs. Ann Lynch McMahon, 83, died Tuesday at the home of her son, Father J. A. McMahon, in Anamosa, following a long illness. Solemn high requiem mass was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Anamosa. McNamara Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Officiating priests were Father McMahon, who read Mass; Father Lattner, Waterloo, deacon; Father Boyle, Strawberry Point, sub-deacon, and Father John Brickley, Gilbert, who delivered the sermon. Burial was at Calvary cemetery, Waterloo. Body lay in state at St. Patrick's church from 3:30 p.m. Wednesday until the service.

Mrs. McMahon was born in County Coban, Ireland, June 10, 1861. She was the youngest of nine children, and her parents died when she was two years old. When 15 years old she came to New York City where she lived for 15 years.

She later came to Iowa where she was married to Michael McMahon, and the home was made on a farm near Preston. Couple later retired to Waterloo where the husband died 14 years ago. Since that time she has made her home with her son in Anamosa.

Surviving besides Father McMahon, are another son, Matthew, Waterloo, and a daughter, Margaret McMahon, Anamosa.
