MONTICELLO - Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian church, Monticello, for Gordon S. Eberhart, 25, prominent Jones county farmer, who died Tuesday, Dec. 17.

He strangled accidentally when the hood strings of his parka apparently became entangled in a belt on the drive shaft of the pump jack on his farm.

His body was found by his wife, who is now in the Monticello hospital expecting the couple's first child within a few days. Eberhart had been dead for a while before the body was found, according to Assistant County Medical Examiner Dr. L. D. Caraway.

Eberhart led an active life in Jones county 4-H activities. He was the outstanding 4-H boy in 1958 and showed three grand champion baby beeves during his 4-H career. In 1957 he was president of the Castle Grove Royal Rangers and previously had held offices of vice-president and reporter.

Pallbearers are Loren Monch, Phillip Gerdes, Leo Tjaden, Orville Esmoel and James Schilling.

He was born Oct. 21, 1938, at Monticello, the son of Clarence Eberhart and Lillian Wetzel Eberhart. He married Una Kay Sarchett, Dec. 29, 1961, at Center Point.

Eberhart was a 1957 graduate of Monticello High school and served in the army including six months in Germany between 1961 and 1963. After his return in March, 1963, he began farming. He was an active member of the Presbyterian church.

Survivors include his wife, Una; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Eberhart; and two sisters, Mrs. John Lowry, Anamosa, and Janet, at home.
