MARTELLE--Mrs. Eugene Pye, 47, Morley, was killed early Thursday morning when the car in which she was riding collided with a gravel truck a mile north and a mile east of Martelle.

Driver of the car, Lowell Klinefelter, 17, Morley, son of the Robert Klinefelters, was hospitalized at Mercy hospital in Anamosa for shock. Truck driver Chuck Brewster, Oelwein, was treated for bruises and lacerations and released.

Sheriff Ralph E. Albaugh said the auto was proceeding west and the gravel truck going south between 7 and 7:15 a.m. when the two vehicles collided at an intersection near the E. D. Armstrong farm operated by Paul E. Bearinger.

Front left hand portion of the truck hit the auto's right side where Mrs. Pye was riding. She was dead when picked up by Goettsch's Ambulance service in Anamosa. Body was transferred to the Hayden Funeral home in Olin later Thursday morning.

No charges were filed at press time, but Sheriff Albaugh said the case remains under investigation.

Albaugh said Mrs. Pye and Klinefelter were driving to Cedar Rapids where they both were attending a beauty school.

Gravel truck contracted by the B. L. Anderson Co., Cedar Rapids, had been hauling gravel from the Kula quarry near Fairview to road surfacing work in Greenfield township.
