WYOMING--Funeral service for Mrs. Joe Powelka, 73 of Wyoming, who died at Maquoketa, Wednesday, was held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church in Oxford Junction. The Rev. E. G. Steinman, Wyoming, was in charge with burial in the Oxford Junction cemetery.

Born Anna Homolka, Feb. 13, 1872, in Hrdlorez, Czechoslovakia, she came to the Oxford Junction vicinity with her parents when a child of eight. April 3, 1893, she was united in marriage to Joe Powelka at Cedar Rapids. They established their home on a farm west of Oxford Junction and lived there for 28 years.

They moved to Cedar Rapids for a few years, then to Wyoming, where she suffered a stroke of paralysis last Monday afternoon, and was removed to the hospital at Maquoketa, Tuesday. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Robert, Oxford Junction, and Manford, Maquoketa; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Son, Gilbert, was killed in France in World War I.
