17 September 1962 - The Anamosa Journal

William Martin Oltmanns, 61, Anamosa, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, Sept. 15, at his home. He had returned home from a three week stay in the hospital a few hours prior to his death.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran church, Anamosa. Rev. L. C. Beener will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Anamosa. Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa, is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers include Ernest Ortgies, Herman Ortgies, Emil Oltmanns, William Albers, Ludwig Oltmanns and Albert Knake.

He was born Jan. 17, 1901, son of John Oltmanns and Eliza Weets Oltmanns, Cass township. He was married to Irene Guilford Dec. 26, 1921. She preceded him in death Sept. 6, 1945.

He was married to Clara Dirks Ulferts, Aug. 12, 1946, at Anamosa. He had lived on a farm near Anamosa and Martelle before moving to Anamosa seven years ago.

He had attended Jones county rural schools. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church.

Survivors include his wife, Clara, five daughters, Linda, Anamosa; Rachel, Mrs. William Griffith, Monticello; Wilma, Mrs. Eugene Cox, Vinton; Elda Mrs. Norman French, Martelle; Helen, Mrs. Jack Heiken, Scotch Grove; one son, John Oltmanns, Paramont, Calif.

Step-children include Alfreda, Mrs. Vernon Lange, Monticello; LaVera Ulferts, and Dorothy, Mrs. Lyman Postel, Anamosa; and 29 grandchildren.

Others include three sisters, Kate, Mrs. William Poppe, Monticello, Mrs. Molly Knake, Bellevue and Dena, Mrs. John Albers, Anamosa; two brothers, John Oltmanns and Albert Oltmanns, Anamosa.

Beside his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild.
