Mrs. J. N. Baumel, 84, Anamosa, died Monday, Dec. 9, at the home of her grandson, John Miller, Anamosa, following a lingering illness.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 12, at 1:30 p.m. at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. Robert Cleveland conducted the service. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.
Pallbearers included Lee First, Thomas Stimpson, Ernest Hubbard, Everett Custis, Dwight Pulver and William C. Fischer.
She was born Chloe Preston, June 23, 1879, daughter of Freeman Preston and Clara Brown Preston, Black River Falls, Wisc. She was married Nov. 10, 1898, to J. N. Baumel at Black River Falls, Wisc.
She lived her married life in Wisconsin and spent one year in Florida before moving to Anamosa in 1912. Mr. Baumel was a former warden at the Anamosa reformatory.
Survivors include a son, Dudley, Rockton, Ill.; three grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Preston, Madison, Wisc., and Robert Preston, Cleveland, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1951, her parents; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Manner in 1956; two brothers and one sister.
