17 February 1944 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Warner Heiken, 67, who died at his home in Anamosa last Thursday, was held Sunday at the Smykil Funeral home and the Lutheran church. Rev. H. L. Buesing officiated and also conducted service at Wayne cemetery where burial was made.

George Wessels, Martin Nelson, Rev. Buesing and son, David, sang two numbers. Members of the Lutheran Brotherhood formed an honor guard at the church entrance. Elders of the church were casketbearers: Everett Bertelsen, L. V. Candee, Karl Eden, Edward Harms, Henry Rickels and George Wessels.

Mr. Heiken was born Jan.9, 1877, in Castle Grove, the son of Albert and Elmerich Collman Heiken. He attended school there and took special business training. He was confirmed by Rev. C. Mardorf in the Lutheran church April 10, 1892.

He was married Nov. 25, 1903, to Anna Elizabeth Toenjes. Couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last Thanksgiving day. They were the parents of four children, three of whom survive, Wilma, Mildred and Rex. A son, Lorenz, died at the age of 14 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Heiken lived on the farm about four miles north of Anamosa for 35 years. They moved to Anamosa Feb. 1, 1940. He aided his son, Rex, with work on the farm until last August when his health failed.

Surviving are his wife, three children, Mrs. Herman Ohe, Dundee, Ill.; Mrs. Carl Schoon, Anamosa and Rex, Anamosa; six brothers, William, Broadview, Mont.; John, Hale; Fred and Carl, Monticello; Ben, Center Junction, and George, Anamosa; three sisters, Mrs. Henry Johnson, Monticello; Miss Anna Heiken, Monticello, and Mrs. George Specht, Anamosa; also seven grandchildren.

Mr. Heiken was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran church, Anamosa, a member of the church council for 20 years and church treasurer for the last 10 years.
