12 December 1963 - The Anamosa Eureka

George Harrison Witham, 84, Anamosa, died early Thursday morning Dec. 12, at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m., at the McNamara Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. Charles Willming will conduct the service. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Monticello.

Pallbearers will include Ivan Newhard, Alva Barber, Stanley Zimmerman, Louis Yanda, Lyle Coder and John Coder.

He was born July 9, 1879, son of Martin Van Buren Witham and Elizabeth Buskirk Witham, Amber. He was married Jan. 17, 1900, to Margaret Foust at Anamosa.

Couple lived their married life in the Anamosa area. Mr. Witham was engaged in farming before moving to Anamosa. He operated a Standard Oil station in Anamosa for a number of years.

He attended Upper Iowa university, Fayette, and was a member of the Presbyterian church, Antioch.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; two sons, Clifford M. Witham, Owensboro, Ky., and Verle C. Witham, Houston, Texas; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Nyal Harrison Witham.
