Funeral service for Gerd Tholen, 86, who died Tuesday night at the home of his niece, Mrs. George Stutt, in Wayne township, will be held at one o'clock Friday at a Monticello funeral home and at 1:30 at the Wayne Lutheran church. Rev. F. H. Kehren will officiate. Burial will be in the Wayne cemetery.

Tholen lived in Anamosa until several months ago, when his health failed and he went to the home of his niece. He had been seriously ill for about two weeks prior to his death.

Funeral service for Gerd J. Tholen, 86, was held Tuesday of last week at a Monticello funeral home at Wayne Zion Lutheran church. Rev. F. H. Kehren officiated. Duet was sung by Alva Gerdes and George Harms. Mrs. H. Helgens was the organist. Committment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church. Pallbearers were John Fechtmann, Carl Harms, Adolph Dierks, Eilt Onken, George Rickels and Henry Tobiason.

Gerd Jansen Tholen was born Jan. 27, 1859, at Wiese De Meer, East Friesland, Germany, the son of Thole and Geschke Margareta Tholen. He was baptized Feb. 20, 1859, and confirmed at Reepsholt, Ostfriesland March 21, 1875. He came to Jones county, Iowa, in America in 1882 and followed the occupation of farming. He was married Dec. 5, 1889, to Greta Bodeker. His wife died Jan. 6, 1933. His second marriage was entered into Dec. 20, 1934, to Mrs. Louise Oltmanns.

Surviving are his wife, his step-children, John, Albert and William Oltmanns, Mrs. William, Tena, Poppe, Langworthy; Mrs. Louis, Maude, Knacke, Bellevue; and Mrs. John, Dena, Albers, Anamosa; several nieces and nephews. One sister and three brothers preceded him in death.
