December 9, 1943 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Mrs. Ed McGowan, 72, who died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Henry Husman, in Des Moines, Dec. 4, was held Monday, Dec. 6, at Loder Funeral home in Anamosa. Rev. J. K. Delahooke of the Methodist church officiated. Interment was at Riverside cemetery, Anamosa.

Emma Rosettabelle Joslin, oldest daughter of Thurston and Polly Joslin, was born Jan. 26, 1871, south of Fairview. Her childhood was spent in the Fairview community.

When 14 years old she became a member of the Baptist church of Fairview. When that church was moved she joined the Methodist church at Fairview, and on Jan. 6, 1920, transferred her membership to the First Methodist church in Anamosa, and remained a member for the rest of her life.

She married Edward McGowan of Fairview, Jan. 1, 1890. One daughter was born to this union.

Surviving are her husband, her daughter, Mrs. Winnie Northrup, Backus, Minn.; her adopted daughter, Elta Irene Joslin Behrends; three brothers, Louis and Ed, Fairview and George, Anamosa; two sisters, Mrs. Daisy Ellison, Anamosa, and Mrs. Russell Sterner, Des Moines; four grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, nephews and neices.
