OXFORD JUNCTION--Mrs. Christine Mattas, 89, died at the home of her niece, Mrs. Mike Vacek, Sunday evening, following a long illness. She was born May 30, 1854, of Bohemian parents, on a boat coming to America. The family settled near Iowa City, where Mrs. Mattas spent her early life. She was united in marriage to Frank Mattas, September, 1875, who died in 1890. Mrs. Mattas had lived in Oxford Junction for 65 years. She is survived by several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Hayden funeral home. Rev. Wilbur Altheide conducted the service. Pallbearers were George Slouha, George Vacek, John Stevenson, Fred Fritz, Gerald Sabotka, and Frank Tech.

Burial was in the Mayflower cemetery.
