Fay William Oltmann passed away peacefully on December 7, 2020 at the age of 85 while residing at the Anamosa Care Center.

Due to the current health pandemic private services will be held for the family on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. Rev. Melody Williams will officiate. Fay was born in Anamosa on December 9, 1934, the son of William and Matie (Dirks) Oltmann. He graduated from Anamosa High School in 1953. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Army and served his country, stationed in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Iowa and attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant for a short time. On June 17, 1956 he married DonnaLee Marie First at the United Methodist Church in Anamosa. For a few years he was employed as a machinist at Triple E Manufacturing in Marion and went on to retire from Souvenir Pen and Pencil in Cedar Rapids.

Fay was very creative and invented many things utilizing wood and iron. He displayed and sold his creations at area craft shows. Fay enjoyed spending time at home, in his work shop and with his family and friends. Fay also spent time helping Donna with activities and events for Scouts, church groups and school. He spent many hours at Starlighters II Theater, building sets with his buddy Al Danielson. He enjoyed steamboat cruises and bus trips with Donna. He would also take off and travel the byways, visiting the small towns along the way. Fay was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Donna, a daughter Julie (Jeff) Brown, Marion, a son Ron Oltmann, Marion, a granddaughter Mackenzie (Tommy) Behof, Cedar Rapids, a grandson Parker Brown, Cedar Rapids, a great grandson Brooks Behof, a sister-in-law Betty Gissel, Anamosa, a brother-in-law Keith First, Anamosa, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister-in-law Roger and Pat Oltmann, sisters and brothers-in-law Nadine and John Blythe, Margaret and Leo Bonjour and May, his twin sister and Bill Clark.

Memorials can be directed to Starlighters II Theater, the United Methodist Church, or to the Jones Regional Medical Center.
