Rose I. Mere, 90, of Wyoming, Iowa, passed away peacefully in her home on December 9, 2020, surrounded by her family.

A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Dawson Funeral Services in Wyoming, IA. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wyoming United Methodist Church. A burial will take place at a later date at the Wyoming Cemetery. Masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be followed.

Rose was born June 26, 1930, in Wyoming, Iowa to William E. and Ruth (Parsons) McCalmant. Rose gave selflessly of her time and talents. She was honored as Wyoming Senior Volunteer in 2001 by Heritage Agency Task Force. She worked as a trained Domestic Violence Volunteer for Jones County. She served on the Wyoming Library Board and the Wyoming Historical Museum Commission, she served as past President and Secretary/Treasurer of the American Legion Auxiliary for several years and continued to set up crosses and displays in the American Legion Hall. On Memorial Days she proudly carried the large American Flag and gave the readings at the Wyoming Cemetery. She volunteered at the Wyoming Methodist Church Food Pantry. Rose was always available to help the sick and elderly so they could remain in their homes. She worked at Rockwell Collins in payroll. Rose loved her flowers, gardening, reading, going to garage sales, and playing Bingo. Her greatest love was for her family and friends. Rose would always give her love, time and any possessions she had if someone needed it. She was an endless teaser and enjoyed telling stories and laughing.

She was preceded in death by her husbands David Harris Phelps, James Berry II, and Duane Mere; daughters Betty Phelps, Diane Smith, and a son James Berry III; brothers George, Robert, Charles, Vernon, Ivan, William, John and sisters Donna and Verna.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughters Ruth Thomsen, Brenda Farrington, and Tracey Blades; sons David Phelps and Jack Berry; brother Benjamin McCalmant and sister Thelma Rohlena; 22 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Brandy Berry and Tanika Phelps for their compassion and loving care.
