OLIN--John Willard Coppess, 80, son of Andrew and Martha Coppess, was born April 5, 1862 in Dark county, Ohio, and died at Mercy hospital in Anamosa, Monday, Feb. 22.

In March, 1886, he was married to Miss Belle Mertz. To this marriage seven children were born: Claris, the only daughter, died at the age of six months; Charles A., whereabouts unknown; Frank G., San Diego, Calif.; James M. and Willis G., Minneapolis, Minn.; Ralph, Olin; and Starling, Escondido, Calif. Mrs. Coppess died Jan.28, 1914.

Mr. Coppess was married to Miss Elsie Lindley Nov. 27, 1919. To this marriage one child was born, John Junior, who at present is in training at Great Lakes Naval training station.

Mr. Coppess came to the Olin community in 1866 from Ohio when four years of age. The 76 years since that time have been lived in Olin. He was for several years a stock buyer and for the last 34 years he was Justice of Peace.

Surviving are his wife; seven children, 12 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ben Willison, Stanwood, and Mrs. F. L. Conley, Hopkinton, and one brother, Jacob, Onslow. Four sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Funeral service was conducted at the Olin Methodist church, Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. in charge of Rev. W. T. Boston, assisted by Rev. William Strait. Joe Glenn sang, "The Old Rugged Cross," and Mrs. Leon Stivers sang "Some Time We'll Understand", accompanied at the piano by Mrs. L. J. Rohwedder. Burial was in the Olin cemetery. Casket bearers were Roy Sterling, Clarence Brickley, George Lane, William Simmons and Frank Story.
