Funeral service for Mrs. Frank Johnson, 68, who died Saturday at 1 p.m. at her home eight miles north west of Anamosa in Buffalo township after a long illness, was held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's American Lutheran church. Smykil's Funeral home was in charge of the arrangements.

Rev. H. L. Buesing officiated and burial was in Oakwood cemetery at Monticello. Pallbearers included John Andreesen, Gerd Gerdes, Nanne Hanken, Warner Heiken, Gerd Moenck and Henry Rickels.

Members of the Lutheran Ladies Aid society of which Mrs. Johnson had been a senior member, formed a guard of honor both to and from the church. Members of the society sang "Nearer My God to Thee" during the service and George Wessels, jr., and Rev. Buesing sang two numbers.

Mrs. Johnson was born March 5, 1873, daughter of Gerhardt and Elizabeth Johnson, in Oltmannsfehn, Ostfriesland, Germany. When she was 19 she came to the United States, coming directly to Anamosa. On Feb. 25, 1892, she was married in Anamosa to Frank Johnson, who preceded her in death 14 years ago.

With the exception of a few years in Monticello, Mrs. Johnson lived 40 years on the Johnson homestead in Buffalo township.

She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church, having been confirmed as a child.

One daughter, Mrs. Foster Hart, preceded her mother in death. Six children who survive are: Helen E., John F. and Fritz H., at home; George J., Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. A. T. Hughes and Mrs. Dale Barnes, Anamosa.

She also is survived by one brother, John J. Johnson, Ledyard; three sisters, Mrs. E. E. Englebart, Dunkerton, Mrs. E. L. Shoop, Anamosa and Mrs. Sarah Sieling, Hanover, Germany and by three grandchildren, Marion F., Arthur E. and Norma Jean Hart. Norma Jean has made her home with her grandmother since she was a child.
