Funeral service was held Saturday at Dubuque for Shubael Adams Monger, 65, former editor and publisher of the Anamosa Journal, who died Thursday at his home following an illness of several weeks duration.

Mr. Monger's father was the late Charles Henry Monger, one of the early owners of The Journal. His mother was the late Katherine Livermore Adams Monger, sister of the late John Taylor Adams, Dubuque industrialist and one time national chairman of the Republican party.

Shubael Adams Monger was born at Anamosa, Feb. 13, 1875. He was educated in the public schools here. After completing his education he became associated with his father in the publishing and editing of The Journal.

Following the death of the elder Mr. Monger, he became editor and publisher of the paper., He continued in that capacity until 1908, when he disposed of The Journal and went to Dubuque to become an editor of the Telegraph-Herald there.

In 1915, he resigned his position to become associated with the Estate Tax unit of the Bureau of Internal Revenue at Davenport, where he remained for 10 years. He was then transferred by the department to New York City and served there for 11 years.

In 1939 he asked for a transfer to Omaha, Nebr., because of ill health. His health grew worse and he resigned a few months ago.

Mr. Monger was a member of the Congregational church, Metropolitan Lodge of Masons, Dubuque Lodge of Elks, Modern Woodmen of America and the Welfare association of New York City.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Della Griffith Monger, Dubuque; his brother, Charles Monger, Chicago, Ill.; his sisters, Mrs. Frank Jones, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. R. I. Drewry, Pierre, S. Dak.; Miss Mildred Monger and Miss Mildred Monger, Chicago, Ill.; and his aunts, Miss Nell B. Adams and Mrs. James C. Collier, both of Dubuque. A sister, Mabel Monger, preceded him in death.
