Miss Mary McElain, 71, Los Angeles, Calif., former resident of Anamosa, died Monday, June 29. Military funeral, conducted by the American Legion, was held in St. Patrick's church Monday, July 6, with Rev. P. J. Behan officiating. Burial was in Holy Cross cemetery with the McNamara funeral home in charge.

Miss McElain was born on Feb. 10, 1872. She was a nurse and served in the Spanish-American war and the World war. Miss McElain received her discharge from the government July 5, 1918.

Miss McElain attended school in Anamosa and then moved to Evanston, Ill., where she befriend many medical students at Northwestern university. Later she moved to Los Angeles, where she died.

Casketbearers were B. I. McLaughlin, William Lohr, Jack Neville, Steven Cash, Neil Conway and John McCrea.

Only immediate survivor is a brother, Bill McElain, Sioux City.

Other relatives who attended the funeral were a niece, Miss Margaret McElain, Kansas City; and two nephews, Harold McElain, Denver, and Bertram McElain, Aurora, Ill. Mrs. William McElain and Mrs. Bertram McElain also attended the serivce.
