Charles William Metcalf, manager of Iowa Electric Co. and pioneer Anamosa business man, died at his home on North Ford St. Thursday at 9:30 p.m. Mr. Metcalf, who was nearly 75 years, had been ill a month.

Funeral service was held at his home Sunday at 3 p.m. with Rev. Homer E. Dalrymple reading the service. Burial was in Riverside cemetery with the Loder Funeral home in charge.

Casketbearers were all employees of the Iowa Electric Light Co. They were Russell Meade, Pete Pazour, D. J. Meade, George Lesley, W. W. Robertson, Grover Stroud, Claude Stroud and Ernest Schlaman.

Charles Metcalf was born Oct. 3, 1867 in the same house where he died. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace C. Metcalf. When he was six years old he accompanied his father to Laramie, Wyo., for his first summer on the ranch that his father had purchased. Thereafter he spent nearly every summer either on the Wyoming ranch, or in Nebraska where his father bought another cattle ranch.

Mr. Metcalf was married to Emma A. Haner on Feb. 2, 1892, at Hampton, Nebr., where he was running a flour mill for his father. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Metcalf came back to the Metcalf home in Anamosa and Mr. Metcalf assisted his father in operating the flour mill and light plant which his father had started on the sight of his original mill.

In 1906, a year before his father's death, the power house was sold to the Anamosa-Oxford Junction Electric Light and Power Co. When the power plant was purchased in 1914 by the Iowa Electric Co., Mr. Metcalf became manager and remained at that post until the time of his death.

Mr. and Mrs. Metcalf celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home Feb. 2, at which their children and other relatives were present.

Surviving are Mrs. Metcalf, a daughter, Mrs. E. F. Wressel, Hammond, Ind., a son, Hubert C. Metcalf, Anamosa; and one grandson, Charles, also of Anamosa.
