September 6, 1962 - The Anamosa Eureka

Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 2 p.m. for Mrs. A. E. Newhard, 71, at the Goettsch funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. J. Ellis Webb officiated at the service. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. Newhard succumbed at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, Sunday, Sept. 2, following an illness of several months.

Casketbearers were Delbert Remington, Howard Remington, Ivan Newhard, Lyle Newhard, Ray Larson and Harold Larson.

Meda Remington was born April 20, 1891, in Fairview township, the daughter of Rodney and Ida Starkweather Remington. She married A. E. Newhard at Anamosa Nov. 7, 1910. Couple farmed in the Anamosa vicinity until they moved to Anamosa in 1926.

Mrs. Newhard is survived by one son, Robert E. Newhard, Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Mrs. Max (Wilma) Young, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Donald (Reva) West, Mechanicsville; and Mrs. Robert (Nelda) McCullough, Anamosa.

She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Katie Leeper and Mrs. Minnie Larson, both of Anamosa; and three brothers, Fred Remington, Center Point; and Frank and Harry Remington, Anamosa; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mrs. Newhard was preceded in death by her husband in 1953; her parents, three brothers and one infant sister.
