4 January 1962 - The Anamosa Eureka

Russell L. Eldred, 50, Anamosa, state representative of Jones county, died unexpectedly of a coronary on Saturday, Dec. 30, at his home farm.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 1:30 p.m., at the Methodist church, Anamosa. Rev. J. Ellis Webb officiated at the services. Entombment was in Cedar Memorial Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids. Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers included Donzel Ehresman, Delbert Smith, Lewis Vernon, Delmar Findley, Arden Achenbach and Ralph Barger.

Glenn Brokaw was soloist. Mrs. William Hamilton was organist.

He was born March 2, 1911, son of Arthur O. Eldred and Estella Bauer Eldred, Martelle. He was married Jan. 1, 1933, to Greta Brady, Martelle. Couple farmed in the Martelle and Mechanicsville area until moving to the present farm home in 1941.

Eldred was elected last November to his fourth term in the State legislature, in which he was chairman of the house roads committee.

He served two years as president of the Jones county Farm Bureau and was president of the Morley consolidated school board for a number of years.

Survivors include his wife, Greta; a son, Eugene; a daughter, Carol, Mrs. Lonnie Hinrichsen; one brother, Galen, Springville; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
