January 11, 1962 - The Anamosa Eureka

Mrs. O. A. (Marie) Rife, 66, Anamosa, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, at an Iowa City hospital, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m., at the Methodist church, Anamosa. Rev. J. Ellis Webb will officiate at the services. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery. Goettsch Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers include Paul Smith, Charles Tyler, George Hall, Glenn Brostrom, William Hamilton and W. K. Kennedy.

Mrs. William Hamilton will be organist. Mrs. Howard Remley will be soloist.

She was born Dec. 24, 1895, daughter of Charles F. Stookey and Lucy A. White Stookey, Shellsburg. She was married Oct. 2, 1920, to O. A. Rife, Shellsburg, at Shellsburg. Couple made their home in Shellsburg before moving to Anamosa in 1934.

Mrs. Rife was school librarian for eight years and was organist for the Methodist church for several years. She was a member of the Methodist church, Mt. Moriah chapter, Order of Eastern Star.

She was past worthy matron and also an instructor in Eastern Star work, past president of FU PEO chapter; member of Daughters of American Revolution and past president of the American Legion auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, O. A. Rife; two sons, David O. Rife, Pomonoa, Calif., and James S. Rife, Ottumwa; and one brother, P. L. Stookey, Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
