14 December 1961 - The Anamosa Eureka

WYOMING--William French, 73, Wyoming, died Sunday morning, Dec. 10, at the Manning nursing home, Maquoketa.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 1:30 p.m., at the Wallace Funeral home, Wyoming. Rev. F. E. Somerville officiated at the services. Interment was in the Wyoming cemetery.

Pallbearers included Gaylord Willman, Kenneth Leggett, John Meyers, Henry Michels, Norman French and Glen Soper.

Junior Hicks was soloist. Mrs. Lola Wantz was organist.

He was born Sept. 4, 1888, son of James M. and Carrie Bender French, on the French farm west of Wyoming. He attended public schools in the Wyoming area.

He was married Nov. 25, 1913, to Millie Wood, at Hale. Couple lived on a farm near Hale until moving to Wyoming in 1922, where he started a windmill and pump service. He continued to operate the business until 1946, when he turned the business over to his son, Lumir.

Survivors include two sons, Lumir, Wyoming, and Emil, Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Mrs. Willene Cavey, Wyoming, and Emily, Mrs. Boots, Monticello; two sisters, Mrs. Millie McDonald and Ada, Mrs. Joe Willman, both of Wyoming.

Others included three brothers, John, Nebraska; Myron, Wyoming, and Dale, Martelle; 22 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, Grover; a daughter, Crystal; two infant daughters; his parents, one brother and two sisters.
