December 7, 1961 - The Anamosa Eureka

Mrs. Ida B. Van Kirk, 94, Anamosa, died Sunday, Dec. 3 at the Brandt Nursing home, Wyoming.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 1:30 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. J. Ellis Webb officiated at the service. Burial was in Riverside cemetery, Anamosa.

Pallbearers included Harold Hartman, Robert Livingstone, Lloyd Robertson, D. E. Brickley, L. L. Albaugh and Eugene Rees.

She was born Oct. 10, 1867, daughter of James Staneart and Rachel Thompson Staneart, Maysville, Ohio. When a small child, she moved to Urichsville, Ohio. She graduated from the high school in Urichsville and taught in rural schools and as a supply teacher in the home school.

In 1889, she came to Hampton, Iowa, to teach school. She was married to Matthew S. Van Kirk, Hampton, March 30, 1890, at Hampton. Couple lived in the Hampton vicinity for 14 years and one year in Reinbeck. They moved to Anamosa in 1904.

She was a member of the Methodist church, a 50-year and honorary member of Fortnightly club and a member of I.F.W.C. club.

Survivors include three sons, Howard, Coralville; Virgil, Anamosa, and Frederick, Oakland, Calif.; one brother, E. W. Staneart, Indianapolis, Ind., and one sister, Mrs. Cora Lange, Urichsville, Ohio, and three grandsons and four great grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1941; a son, Lee, 1945; one brother and one sister.
