WYOMING--Edward John Jansen, 47, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 7:45 a.m. while on duty at the Wyoming post office.

Funeral services will be held at the Wyoming Methodist church on Friday, Nov. 3, at 1:30 p.m.

Rev. G. M. Field will be clergyman. Walter Sullivan will be soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Walter Sullivan, organist.

Casket bearers will be Ralph Orth, Ernest Reitz, Lyman Thompsen, Tom Eichhorn, Lumir Ingwersen, Robert Alden.

Burial will be in the Wyoming cemetery.

Edward Jansen was born Sept. 30, 1914 at Clarence, the son of Emil H. and Nellie Benischek Jansen.

He attended the Wyoming schools and graduated from Wyoming high school in 1932.

He enlisted in the Naval reserve in September, 1952, received his boot training at the Great Lakes. He then attended Bliss Electrical college at Washington, D.C., where he studied electronics and radar. He was sent to Treasure Island, Calif., where he received further study. He graduated with honors from both schools. After graduating, he was made an instructor, and taught at Wright junior college at Evanston, Ill., and in Chicago, Ill., at another Naval electronics school.

After asking for active duty, he was assigned to a new destroyer escort, the U.S.S. Loveless, which he helped equip with electronics and radar to Navy specifications. He was in three major battles in the Pacific area, one of which was the recapturing of Manilla. He received several citations for his duty in the Pacific.

Upon completing schools, he was given the rating of Electronics technician 2nd class, then was promoted to Chief Petty officer (Chief Electronics Technician). He was on active duty for two years, before discharge in December, 1945, when he returned to Wyoming.

After his graduation from high school and again after his discharge from the Navy, he assisted his father in the Feed mill in Wyoming.

After his father's death he operated the business until 1946, when he sold it to Robert Alden. He assumed duties as clerk in the Wyoming postoffice in 1940.

Edward traveled extensively. While on a tour of the Orient, he met his bride of two months, Betty Wickmann, to whom he was married Aug. 29, 1961, at Pittsfield, Mass.

He spent two months this past summer on a Scandanavian "through the lens" tour, touring Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, returning the later part of August.

He had served as a member of the Town council, also as a member of the Lions club and Commercial club.

He was a member of the American Legion post 259 of Wyoming; 40 & 8; board of directors of the Citizens State bank in Wyoming; Wyoming Telephone board; member of the Wyoming Methodist church.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, his mother, one sister, Velma, Mrs. Harry Paulsen, Monticello.

Also surviving are a niece, a nephew and a grand nephew.
