OXFORD JUNCTION--Dr. James Eugene Davies, 68, Oxford Junction, died in the hospital at Maquoketa Friday, Dec. 28, at 6 p.m., where he had been taken the day before Christmas. He had suffered a stroke in June and had been confined to his home ever since and gave up active practice at that time.

Funeral services were held from the Buchner chapel Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. with Rev. Edward Holyoke having charge and the Masonic lodges at Maquoketa and Oxford Junction also serving. Burial was at Maquoketa.

Dr. Davies was born in Virginia May 13, 1874, and came to Maquoketa when a small boy with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. William Davies. He spent his early life there and was graduated from Maquoketa high school and from the medical department at the State University of Iowa in 1898. He served his internship in a hospital at St. Louis and first located at Monmouth but soon moved to Oxford Junction where he has been a practicing physician for the last 40 years.

He was married to Margaret May Everhart, Oxford Junction, who survives and also two sisters, Mrs. J. P. Van Horn, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Roberta Dickson, San Bernadino, Calif.

Dr. Davies was affiliated with the Zealous lodge A.F. & A.M. of Oxford Junction, Peerless chapter O.E.S. and the New Era lodge Knight of Pythias, in which organizations he was quite active officially until the time of his illness. He was also a member of the Lutheran church here.
