15 March 1962 - The Anamosa Eureka

Gerhard J. Moenck, 86, Anamosa, died Monday night, March 12, at his home at 706 S. Garnavillo, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 16, at 1:30 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran church, Anamosa. Rev. LaVerne Beener will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Wayne cemetery. Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa, has charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers include Carl Wehling, Carl Siebels, Hank T. Siebels, J. H. Siebels, Howard Soper and Carl Ortgies.

Mrs. Earl Wahl will be soloist. Mrs. M. W. Frederick will be organist.

He was born Nov. 17, 1875, son of John Moenck and Margaret Oltmanns Moenck, Germany. He was married June 11, 1898, to Hermine Monk, at Wayne Lutheran church.

He was engaged in farming in the Langworthy and Anamosa vicinities until moving to Anamosa where he had made his home for the last 26 years.

Survivors include a son, George Moenck, and a daughter, Margaret, Mrs. Conrad Poppe, both of Anamosa; ten grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Meta Jochens, Germany.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 6, 1962; one son, Arthur; an infant daughter; two brothers and three sisters.
