8 March 1962 - The Anamosa Eureka

George Morton Brainard, 81, Anamosa, died Sunday March 4, at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, following a lingering illness. He was admitted to Mercy hospital in November 1960, and spent the period from December 1960 until March 3, 1962, at the Colehour Nursing home, Mount Vernon.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 7, at 1:30 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. Robert Cleveland, of the Congregational church, officiated at the services. Burial was in the Cass cemetery.

Pallbearers included Burton Brown, Blaine Burkey, Chester Condit, Howard Hart, Frank Pillard and Thomas Stimpson.

He was born April 26, 1880, son of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin James Brainard, on the Brainard farm in Cass township. He was married in 1901 to Emma C. Pfeil, Monticello. Couple spent better than four decades on the Brainard farm in Cass township before retiring and moving to Anamosa in 1943.

He was a life-long member of Cass Congregational church, a past member of I.O.O.F. and Knights of Pythias lodges.

Survivors include four children, Geraldine, Mrs. Ashley Elliott, Central City; Carlton Brainard, Galen Brainard and Miss Esther Brainard, all of Anamosa; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma, in January 1961, and one son, Edward, in 1920.
