HALE--Mrs. Hosea Ballou, 82, died at her home in Hale early Saturday morning following a lingering illness. She was born Maria Shaaf, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Shaaf in Clarence, on May 9, 1857.

On Dec. 11, 1880, she married Hosea Ballou and the home was made in Hale township. She was the mother of two children, Frank, Strawberry Point; and Mrs. Capitola Bond, Corning, N.Y. She is survived by her husband, children, and five grandchildren, Paul and Howard Ballou, Independence; Esther, Capitola and Alice Bond, Corning, N.Y., and two great-grandsons.

Funeral service was held at the home Monday at one o'clock followed by services at the Methodist church, Clarence, at two o'clock. Service was conducted by Rev. Gordon Smith, Clarence. Burial was made in the Clarence cemetery.

Pall bearers were all relatives: Paul Ballou, Howard Ballou, Independence; Howard Cruise, Hale; Lloyd Phillips, Clarence; and Bert and Merle Ballou, Olin.
