6 December 1962 - The Anamosa Eureka

MORLEY--Otis W. Babcook, 53, Cedar Rapids, was found dead in his automobile Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, northeast of Morley.

Apparent cause of death was suicide by carbon Monoxide poisoning, according to Jones county Medical examiner Dr. John L. Bailey, Anamosa. Car was found Tuesday morning and reported to Jones county Sheriff Lewis Dreibelbis.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 6, at 1:30 p.m. at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. John R. Schlosser, of Olin Methodist church, officiated at the services. Burial was in the Antioch cemetery.

Pallbearers included James Whitmore, Leo Bonjour, Delbert Grafft, Joe Soper, Ray Morning and Max Thompson.

He was born June 12, 1909, son of Charles Babcook and Mabel Priaulx Babcook, Clarinda. He was married to Toni Peterson, Nov. 14, 1931, at Rock Island, Ill. Couple made their home on a farm in Jones county before moving to Cedar Rapids in February 1962.

Survivors include his wife, Toni, two daughters, Doris, Mrs. Richard Grafft, Anamosa; Brenda, at home; one son, Lynn, Cedar Rapids; his mother, Mrs. Mabel Bramer, Cedar Rapids.

Others include three sisters, Mrs. Donald Mann, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Louise Benau, Allerton; Mrs. Willis Fairbanks, Anamosa; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, and one daughter, Marlene.
